I recently came across an old .php file wich was layin’ around in my HD.
it was a pimped up version of one of my very first full OO projects back in 2000, dealing with mysql connections.
I used it in a really big project, when i also became used to CVS, business logic separation, Gant charts and caffeine overdoses, then when the application was onilne i started another job, and lost track of my code, and my tiny, presciousssss mysql class. When I found it, last month, I noticed it was kinda different, it ‘grew up’. Somene took my code, polished it, added some nice methods to fulfill his needs, then this piece of crap code bounced back to me in some manner.
Looking at this code I ended up thinking about all the snippets of code layin around my workstation: simple ideas, code ‘almost’ working, dead projects that would never see the light because of lost interest or not enough time. What could have happened if someone coult take, feed them and make’em grow up? would they end up in being some crappy useless code or would anyone be able to transform them into some kind of ‘working beta’?
So, there are some of my seeds. If you think they are worh the effort take them and plant in your garden, let’s see what kind of tree you can get from. I would also say that I really believe in Open source, and I would like to use some GPL-ish licence just to be sure that you will give back …. but unless you make great money from it no one [me neither] will ever ask you who gave you that weird idea or that pile of crappy code so….
take a seat,
look around,
and if you see somethig worth use at your wish
